I recently bought a new rice cooker and I'm craving some japanese sticky rice.
I know that it's short grain, but I can't find anything in any grocery stores, big or small.
I know I'm overdue to go out to our little China town, but I figured I'd ask if anyone knows any non-asian stores that carries any brands, before I head that way.
Thanks so much in advance!

| Back to school time! |
[20 Jul 2009|04:39pm] |
And the stores are filling up with cheap backpacks.
I'm on the lookout for two (identical or co-ordinating) backpacks suitable for 7-year-old girls, with a pirate logo or theme. Something simple/cute would be better (I have a fondness for pink skull&bones with little hearts in the eyes), and I'm trying to avoid hard-core rock-and-roll metal-type skulls and roses and snakes - a little old for the pirate twins, I think.
No luck so far - but if anyone sees anything, could you let me know? I've got the rest of the summer to find something to spare myself having to go with licensed Tinkerbell backpacks again. *shudder*

| Items for Sale |
[20 Jul 2009|03:14pm] |
Lots of stuff for sale. All clothes items are used, but in excellent condition. The dresses and suits have all been professionally cleaned. All other clothes have been washed in a regular washing machine.
I am willing to drop off purchases of $20 or more to pretty much anywhere in the Ottawa area.
Ok, on with the items:

Hello, lovely Ottawans! Does anyone know if Valentino: the last emperor is playing anywhere in the city? I've checked all the Cineplexes, Rainbow, Bytowne, Mayfair, and Empire, to no avail. I must see this movie! Do I really need to drive to Montreal or Toronto to do so? Say it isn't so! TIA!

Is it possible for someone to give me a brief overview of what parts of Vanier are less safe/ dirty/ run-down than others?
I'm thinking I can call the City Counsillor for that area to get crime rate info but any personal experience would be appreciated.
I'm considering moving there with my 6 yr old daughter.
TIA!

| french classes? |
[20 Jul 2009|10:01am] |

my boyfriend is looking to learn french; he's already attending alqonquin full-time for travel & tourism, so his only options would be night classes or correspondence. he'd like to keep the cost as low as possible (since he's already paying one tuition). algonquin's night courses are 333$ for french. has anyone done successful correspondence for french? pros/cons? price? thanks.

After trying all spring to grow grass in the backyard of our new house (the builder sodded the front yard), we're considering buying sod for the backyard (roughly 3000 square feet). Does any one have any suggestions or recommendations about where to buy sod in Ottawa-Gatineau? Ideally, we'd like to hire a crew to install the sod, but that's budget-permitting.

| Map of Barrhaven? |
[18 Jul 2009|02:43pm] |
Does anyone know where online I could find a map of the area of Barrhaven south of Strandherd near Woodroffe? Google Maps doesn't have any of the streets identified yet.
I'm specifically looking for the location of New Liskeard Ave (I believe it's an Ave).
Thanks!
